A Table Too Small

This is my latest find on Craigslist, though I thought it was bigger when I agreed to buy it. I wanted to change my counter-height table to a more classic round one. But this little thing only fits 2-3 people comfortably so I may have to sell it or just find a different room to put it in. The good thing is I really had a craving to paint something and this did satisfy me for a while.

Using my favorite new Annie Sloan chalk paint, I painted it in about an hour! Yes I need to add a clear coat on top and maybe antique it a bit, but I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. You will notice on my wing-back chairs (I have been wanting to redo them for about two years...SLACKER) I painted the legs while I had the paint out. It totally looks ghetto but it's progress right? Maybe one day soon I can share the "after" pictures of the chairs.

I just want to thank all who follow my little blog, it means a lot that there are those out there that care to peek into my little obsessive world of anything decor.

Burlap Bench

When I spotted this coffee table on Craigslist I thought that I would just paint it and distress it. But when I went to pick it up I didn't realize how small it was. So the gears started turning and the thought that this would be the perfect size for an entry bench came to mind.

Just a little bit of flat black paint and some distressing was the first step. I picked up some Poly Foam for the cushion and 1 1/2 yards of burlap.

Using my staple gun I put it all together. The burlap was a little tricky to work with but I like how it turned out.

I grabbed some really cool ribbon from an antique store to add on top and placed a new knob on the drawer in front.

Now the real test will be to see if it handles well with having actual people (kids) sit on it.

The Witch Is In!

I love this time of year, my birthday month is October and so since I was younger I would look forward to it (until I hit 30):)

Recently I found this and I had to have it. My husband said he would cut it out for me if he could get a new jig-saw. Of course I said yes because I have "other" projects that require a jig-saw...he just didn't know that at the time. hehehe

I printed the template and taped it together on a sheet of plywood.

I then traced it with a black marker...

and my sweet husband cut it out for me (a serious labor of love).

I bought two cans of outdoor spray paint and gave it a couple of coats. I also sprayed the back to seal it and prevent moisture damage.

Now to add her accessories!

I bought a 3/4 in x 5ft galvanized pipe and brackets. We attached them using a small piece of scrap wood so the nails wouldn't show through. We also placed a metal stake at the bottom for extra support.

For her broom I just bought a handle ment for a rake and attached some twigs I had laying around the house. I attached the twigs with electrical tape and sprayed everything black. For extra support I added twine.

Her lantern was on clearance at Lowe's for $1.00. I placed a flame less candle inside that I purchased for 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby.

So this is what she looks like in the "spot light". I love the shadow cast on our house.

$25.00 Hutch Make-over

This hutch was purchased at a garage sale back in June. I was so excited because I have been wanting one for awhile and the price was great. It sat in my garage for 2 months and finally I was determined to finish it.

After cleaning the mouse "gifts" left behind from the previous owners, I set off to painting it.
I used Valspar Baby Blue spray paint and six cans later it was covered. I thought it was a little bit too "new" looking and so I added a glaze. My kids asked me why I like everything to look dirty...I am pretty obsessed with my glaze I will admit that.

I replaced the glass with gardening wire I found at Lowe's and added some great knobs from Hobby Lobby.

Now I have to figure out if I want to keep it or sell it. Any Takers...hahaha!

A Quick Chair Redo

We have had this table and chairs for about five years. With three children, this color was not the best choice. Not to mention it's a very boring color too.

I stepped outside of my comfort "beige" zone and bought some fabric to give some life to these chairs.

Seriously this was the easiest fix in the world. I didn't remove the old fabric so covering it was fast. I unscrewed the seat and used my trusty heavy duty stapler to attach the fabric. I also added some heavy plastic to protect them from my lovely children.

If you want to add some bold print to your home this is a smart and quick way to do it.

Our Teacher Gift

I can't believe the school year is over! My kids had some pretty fantastic teachers. I am kind of sad t

o see this year pass. I will have all three kids in school all day long next year. Not to mention my son is going into middle school too.

I remember looking forward to having the house to myself during the day...now...I'm not so sure. I miss them already! Holy Moly, I think I need

a moment!

Anyway back to my post. I found a cute printable here and printed it as a mirror image.

I found the canisters at Wal-Mart and place the stickers on the inside of the jar.

I then placed a few layers of brown coffee filters inside the jar to hold the cookies.

A little twine and there you have a great teacher's gift. I even made a sticker with a little message on it to place on the inside of the lid.

I am very thankful for great teachers. It takes pretty special people to teach our children.

Now let summer begin!

A Recycled Glass Lamp

Back in February I found these tall glass candle holders that I just loved...well I put them on my mantle. The story doesn't end there. My mantle was not secured to the wall and my 6-year-old hung on it...and yep you guessed, they fell to the ground and broke.

I wasn't mad because it was an accident and it was my fault for putting them there. After cleaning up the mess I put them into the trash. I went to bed, and laid there thinking what beautiful lamps the glass would make. I jumped out of bed and "dumpster dived" in my own trash can.

About three weeks ago my husband picked me up a drill-bit so I could make a hole in the top and today I purchased a lamp kit from Lowe's. This it what the first lamp looks like today.

In a few weeks (or months) when I finish the next lamp, I will have to find some cute shades for them.

Cobble Stone Path

Well spring has arrived at our new home and that means time to pay attention to the yard. I came across these concrete forms at Lowe's and thought they would look great in front of our gate. When my husband took the project and ran with it...well...I couldn't stop him right?

Step #1: We decided where to place the concrete and then removed the grass.

Step #2: We then placed the form to plan out the design and where the concrete should be placed.

Step #3: Mix a bag of concrete with water.

Step #4: We added some dark color to match our existing rocks. One bottle is enough for two bags of concrete.

Step #5: Place the concrete inside the frame and make sure there aren't any air pockets.

Step #6: Smooth it and put extra concrete back into the bucket.

Step #7: After lifting the frame, round the stones so it resembles a natural looking rock.

And there you have it...beautiful cobble stone! (i did help a little bit)

Being a Mother..

The three things I love about being a mom....

#1 Tayden born 9-21-99, 5lbs 11oz. He was my first born, and it's a miracle he survived my immature mothering skills. This last week he "aced" his math test. He's not afraid to still give his mom a hug and kiss every night.

#2 Tye born 7-14-02, 7lbs 4oz. She was my first born daughter. When I found out I was having a girl I was so scared that she wouldn't like me...I know crazy. She made my mother's day by telling me I was "prettier than the sun" and by getting 100% on her spelling test.

#3 Shea born 2-18-05, 6lbs 2oz. She is the baby...but you wouldn't know it. She is very responsible and carries a smile with her wherever she goes. She makes my Mother's Day by always serving her older brother and sister.

Yucky Metal Lockers Part 1

I purchased these lockers off of Craigslist a few weeks back. I wanted something unique in my entry way to serve as a coat closet.

They needed a little bit of cleaning and some paint before I could move them out of my garage into my house. A little bit of bleach and some spray paint and they were ready...(kind of, I still need to find some cool vintage metal numbers off of Etsy).

They were so heavy that my husband and I could barely get them into the house...(well he could have if he had someone more capable to help him)...and they are now resting in my family room. Though the family room is not where they will stay...for now it will do.

Stay tuned...and maybe they will make it to there final destination.

I am now entering my "twine" phase. I wrapped my chandelier, a few lamps...and I recently came across some of my plastic pears (from my "plastic" phase) and had to wrap them in twine too. I just think twine is a timeless material and not to mention easy to work with. If it was comfortable I would totally rock some twine pants!

Wood Lockers

Yes, yes, yes....this is not only the pantry but the "mud room" (if you can call it that). I really had high hopes that my kids would place their shoes nicely in that basket, and hang their coats on the rack. You can't even see the basket anymore.

This space is so narrow that taking a picture of it was very challenging.

We printed the plans off of Ana White....(who doesn't love her?)

My husband put this bad boy together in a couple of hours...and then I took over painting it.

This is what our mud room looks like now...this has seriously changed my life! My kids now stuff everything into their own locker space.

It was painted in Barn Owl White by Valspar and covered with a faux Tobacco glaze by Ralph Lauren

I am now on the hunt for some wire baskets for the bottom shelf and some hooks for each locker.

This is my space...I just need a place to hang my bag and my husbands jacket.

I would recommend building lockers to anyone...the only down-fall is that mine are tucked away where I can't show them off...oh well!

Well apparently I am waaaaay behind on the whole faux animal head thing. I'm not interested in a taxidermy animal head (i don't know if that makes any sense), I am quite pleased with the ceramic deer head I purchased off of Amazon.

So here you are...my version of trophy head wall decor using a small paint brush and crafters paint.

A Very White After

I live in a very beige house. So we really needed to get creative and add another color....so we went with white...hmmmm. Yes you would be surprised how the color white seems to "POP" when placed inside a "very beige house" (like I said before).

Christmas Light Chandelier

I was asked to decorate for a Valentine dance my church was having. I was a little bit freaked out...because it was in this huge gym and I needed to make the room feel...well...not so huge. So I called my sister (i call her for all decorating emergencies) and she gave me this great idea. She suggested making a chandelier...WHAT!?! How do you do that? So with ideas from my sister and Hobby Lobby...I came up with this.

1 white sheet (purchased at goodwill) torn into strips

2 wire wreath frames (Hobby Lobby)

White toile (Hobby Lobby)

White icicle lights (Clearance item)

I placed the lights in the groove of the frame and wrapped the white sheet around the strand. I did this until both frames were filled. I then hooked the two frames together with the toile. It really looked great when the lights were on. I made a similar and much larger chandelier for the center of the gym. And no I didn't get pictures...I know I know...it was a crazy weekend. But I did take pictures of it hanging from my chandelier...at least it's a picture :)!

Yeah and I took a picture of it in broad day-light...not so smart...well you get the idea.

Old Door For Displaying Pictures

I have had this door for a few years, I scored it at a garage sale. I brought it home and it sat in the corner of my dining room. I have hung framed pictures on it, multiple wreaths, and even an old ladder.

It's very heavy so I really don't want to hang it on my wall...so before I do something crazy like cut it in half for shelving, I thought I would display some priceless pictures from it.

Using the most rusty looking nails and wire, I attached them to the door. Now I have a cool place (for now) to hang these great pictures of my family.

I placed the door in our office. I am working on decorating this space and this has given me a starting point of what I want to do next.

I really need a new camera...

My Own Heirloom

Well I suffer from "instant gratification" syndrome...I had to have them now. So I dug through my boxes a came across these frames that were actually given to me by my husbands grandmother ( heirloom), haha.

The way I know that I like something is if I wake up the next day and it still looks good! This picture does not do any justice...I guess you had to be there...lol.

I have the most wonderful women in my life from my own mother to my grandmother to my mother-in-law. This post is dedicated to them. My own mother rocks in the kitchen...her cooking is a physical taste of home for me.

I inherited two ideas from the other women in my life. The Christmas bread idea is from my mother-in-law. She is so talented and when I tasted this bread I knew I had picked the right man to marry. :) Though the bread was not my idea, I can take the credit for the burlap and twine it's wrapped in...but I can't take the credit for the cute Christmas tags I found here.

Now a special contribution to my wonderful grandmother. She passed away a couple of weeks ago...and though she had dementia...I knew how much she loved me. I will treasure my last moment with her holding her hand tightly as she fell asleep. She had the softest hands and the softest heart. I bet the reunion on the other side was very sweet.
My grandmother had a "top secret" fudge recipe....that I actually acquired recently. I have made this three times and it really has only turned out once. But I think I have the secret...you have use a gas stove, and you have to speak out loud to my grandmother while stirring it...(there is a lot of stirring).

We are in the process of moving into our new home....YAY! I have to admit that hanging something on the wall was heaven for me. I haven't had my own home for 6 months. So now we have a few projects that we have to work on. First my husband found this "great deal" on some speakers for our surround sound. The price is a number with a couple of 9's at the end. Hey I really shouldn't complain, I did get the cabinets I wanted. Something else we have to get is a pair of pendant lights to put above our island. So if you'd like let me know what ya think...I have to live with these for a long time.

My history with sunglasses isn't so good. I usually sit on them, or drop them or they become a "prop" for the kids play time. I recently bought 9 pairs of sunglasses for $9.00 from here! My expectations were pretty low...but I was actually sent glasses that I would wear. There were two pairs that I will happily give to my girls to play with but over all I was pleased! The retail value was from $9.00-$25.00...so a dollar a pair isn't bad.

I want to find a really pretty vintage looking chandelier for the entry way.

Imagine white antiqued cabinets here....I can hardly wait!

We are going to put a leather "L" shaped couch here. We had it wired so that we would be able to hang our flat screen on the wall.

I know that looking at Sheetrock is just thrilling...but it's so fun to see the process it takes to form our new home.

Our house is coming along pretty fast. The plumbing is done and electrical will probably be in this week.

CAUTION: Extreme Kitchen Cabinet Makeover!!

We are visiting family for a couple of weeks in Utah. When I come to town I am always painting something. My sweet lil sister Jamie had this CrAzY (REPEAT CRAZEEE) idea to paint her kitchen cabinets in less then 24 hours. I think we need to be submitted into the Guinness Book Of World Records for repainting cabinets. I told her she was nuts (we are very similar) to think we could do it....but we did...and it looks great! If you remember not too long ago I painted, stripped and repainted my kitchen cabinets. This process took me a month (or longer)...and I swore I would never do it again. But here I am...this is true sisterhood in action.

Burlap Message Board and Frame

I have a good friend Megan who has a hair salon in her home. She is FANTASTIC at what she does and I love her to death. Megan is one of the most down-to-earth people I know. I wanted to do something nice for her because she is always doing something for someone else.

I bought this "plastic" frame at Goodwill for a $1.50 and sprayed it black.

I made a trip to the ~~candy store~~ Craft Warehouse and picked up a few bits of "bling".

The Mason lids were used for my circle template and after cutting the circles out of burlap...(may I add took me FOREVER)....yeah...I didn't even end up using them.

This is way fuzzy....sorry

I love the scissors graphic I found at "The Graphics Fairy", I'm glad I found a way to use it.

Dirty Work...Someone's Gotta Do It!

We are so excited to start on our new home. My totally rad father-in-law with help from my totally cool husband are doing the excavating.

So today was day 1

and then...... what do I see.....SNAKES!!!

I don't consider myself a "prissy girl" but when it comes to mice (and my new found fear of snakes)... I. AM. OUT!

Oh and yes my husband informed me later about the mouse he had seen.

I know I know...this is just how it is.

We missed having Tayden at our exciting "ground breaking" he would have been all over it. He is in Utah playing rugby, being spoiled by grandma, and not to mention.. hoping he'll see a certain girl.

The Future is Bright!

This was our last Sunday morning in our home. I am ready to move out and move on. Our home is so bare right now. We took our trampoline down yesterday and our bedroom has become the family closet. This move has been a lot easier then the last move. Maybe because we needed a change. In church today they talked a lot about change and how it is the one constant in our life. Change is necessary for us to grow and become better.

I am so excited that we sold our home. It was on the market for two days and we had a buyer! So now that the closing is around the corner I have been looking around with a different perspective. We really have enjoyed living here. I think about all of the work we will get to do in our new home too. I will probably recreate a lot of this home into our new home. So goodbye Chehalis Lane...we had a lot of laughter...a few tears...and many memories.

Not Your Mother's Plastic

I think it is safe to say that many of us grew up with some sort of a "plastic fruit bowl". Well in this family the "apple" doesn't fall far from the tree (yeah, I think I'm funny)! I am a firm believer in being "fake" (when it comes to food and plastic surgery) :). We just sold our house (yeah) and when I staged it I had some fake goodies in the kitchen. Food alone really makes a home...but spoiling is a problem. My realtor actually asked if it was real...so you know it wasn't too tacky. I just love the color and beauty that fruit has and the way a pastry looks on a cake plate. So here is my shout out to plastic!

They create some incredible..almost edible..fruit these days.

I seriously could eat the Kiwi off the top.

This is making me hungry...

So embrace the fake...and not the calories!

This is what was said about my Grandpa Wilson.

These are the questions that entered my mind last week.

Early in his marriage...before the honey moon ended...my grandpa was drafted into the war. He served in the Army Air Corp as a B-17 Bomber Pilot in WWII.

Not long after my grandma received this telegram...but despite those around her fearing that my grandpa was killed...she knew and had faith that he was still alive.

She then received the telegram above. He was shot down over Germany and held as a POW for a year. Can you imagine what she was going through. Not knowing how he was being treated or when she would see him again? Upon returning from the war he was fattened up to 85lbs. and finally met his infant son for the first time.

So as I learn more about this man...whom I proudly call "grandpa"...I understand how important it is to live a life of service and love. That though we may go through things that seem unbearable...it comes down to how we handle ourselves and others. I don't know if my grandpa understood how he had influenced those around him while he was here. But I am sure he understands now.

My last memory of him is giving him a big hug and kiss and telling him that I loved him before returning home to Washington. I am so grateful that I expressed that to him.

Buyer's Remorse

I made an unscheduled trip to Goodwill . I made an unplanned purchase. I may have made a mistake. I bought these chairs and ottoman thinking I could reupholster them. WHAT! This is a classic case of having too much confidence. I think I have buyer's remorse. But I am determined to try something new. I need some ideas. Do you think I could just use scissors and a glue gun to transform these? Who knows, I might just buy a slip cover for them.

But on the other hand, Shea was very pleased with her .50 purchase.

Time For Change

So are the birds singing a little bit louder this year? I think Mother Nature turned the base up. I love love love the change of seasons. No matter what time of year it is. I was feeling the need to change something myself. So yes the spray can and I spent some time together. I put everything that "screamed" spring that I had already in my home...and if it didn't...I made it "scream" with white spray paint and a "Barely Jade" paint color I bought. The little bird house actually had a star on it and was a mustard color..man I wish I had a before shot!

This is before the spray can found them...everything was sprayed with exception to the Mason Jars and the green plate.

Mr. Right and I decided to sell our house and so I have been busy getting it ready to show. The company my husband works for is going under...I know ScArY! So his last day is Friday. Now that we aren't sure about the future, we think it's best to sell so we can save our credit. The real truth, underneath everything, is that I am looking forward to a new adventure. This is just a trial that will strengthen my marriage and put into perspective the real things that matter in life. Yes these type of things drive me to my knees often but I have a peaceful feeling that we'll be okay.

We replaced our old bead-board and painted it. I hope the new owners appreciate the love that has gone into this house;)!

This is a little story about a little lamp. I bought this at our local thrift store. I actually have been wanting a lamp for my kitchen and so I was excited about finding this. But I have to confess that I walked past it three times and put it back once. Anyway, I gave into myself and bought it. I knew it could be wonderful.

I did end up buying a new shade. After putting the shade on I thought it needed something else.

So I placed a bird graphic (The Graphics Fairy ) on the inside of the shade. When you have the lamp off you can't see it, but when it's turned on it really is beautiful. I really have enjoyed this lamp. My kids love it and if I can impress them, then I have it made.

I accidentally sprayed the cord a little. So I used some left-over burlap I had and made a cover for it.

Just a little bathroom facelift

We added beadboard to our guest/kids bathroom. We wanted something that would be durable and pretty to look at too! I added the numbers later. I thought that maybe the hooks would encourage my kids to hang their towels up. Nothing has inspired them yet.

We also put some peel and stick tile down. We really like it and the cool thing is that you don't need a lot of extra tools.

Herb Nesting Crates

Just a copy-cat yes I am. Most of you may have seen the herb boxes from Layla at The Lettered Cottage. I am very aware that she has a fabulous eye for making things beautiful. So this is my "Layla" attempt!

I Love You "benches"!

I love having things in my home that have character and that are personal. We actually made these two benches because we didn't have the money to buy a brand new set of chairs for our table.

On one of the benches my husband traced my kids hand print and then carved their prints into the bench.

On the other bench he carved a heart and put our initials inside of it.

After painting them I took sandpaper and aged them. I then watered down some brown craft paint I had and rubbed it over the wood. We then put a clear-coat over everything.

These may not be fancy but we will cherish these in our home for the rest of our lives.

My Husband... the "Stripper"

My original plan was to paint my cabinets a "Barn Owl White" and then distress them. But when I attempted the distressing, it didn't look the way I wanted it to. So we I repainted over the the white with the black paint. This looked bad because I didn't take the white paint off first. I was telling my husband that I was really starting to stress-out about the cabinets and I didn't know what I should do. That is when he sweetly offered to ~~strip for me~~ strip the paint for me (if I took Tayden to wrestling practice). I instantly felt a weight being lifted.

The "stripping" first began in the garage, and then after he almost passed out he decided to take the stripping out-side. Now we have one more cabinet left to paint and the hardware to put on. I really like the color, it has grown on me. It also helped to get reassurance from my friends Karen and Lindsay (unless they are big liars) that they really liked them.

After all of this I wanted to repaint my kitchen. Yes, I was given a reality check by my sweet, beautiful, loving friend . She basically said that I was Crazy (not her words exactly but maybe). She suggested keeping it the way it is. WHAT A RELIEF! I didn't want to do it that bad anyway (really). I love having friends that "keep it real". But I am still thinking of repainting my kitchen table. I found a table on PB that I LOVE!

This should be easy, right?

Well maybe after I paint my table (in a few weeks or months or years) I will have it out of my system! UMMMM....YEAH RIGHT! I am a confessed "coloraholic". I love that I can have instant change. But I will admit that you can change the feeling of your home just by relocating or repurposing what you already have.

What a great weekend we had. My Friday really was inspired by what happened on my Wednesday. That was the day that my son quickly handed me two notes from his teacher that I needed to sign. They both stated that he was having some problems keeping quiet during class. This isn't the first time that I have heard this. So I had to do something "new" that would inspire him not to talk and be disruptive during class. I decided to embarrass him. I put my big rollers in my hair and headed to his 4th grade class to sit by him during the first hour. Wow! He was shocked. At first I was being the distraction, all of the kids were laughing as I walked into class. But soon everyone settled down. My son would not look at me, talk to me or let me help him in anyway. He did ask when I was leaving though. I said I would stay for a little while this time. I said if it happens again that I would wear my p.j.'s on top of wearing my rollers and I would spend THE WHOLE DAY with him! He was so angry with me. When I did finally leave I told him that I loved him and to have a good day. He just shrugged his shoulders. I secretly hope I won't be coming back again in my rollers. It was very embarrassing for me too. But that is just how much I love my kids.

On Saturday my girls were sick and so I stayed home with them. Tayden and Tanner went to Tayden's wrestling meet. Tay did really well, he placed 3rd. His Saturday was better then his Friday I think.

Aren't kids incredible! I adore mine, even though it's hard to be a mom sometimes. I am already starting to miss them, they grow so fast and will be gone too soon. Yeah, I am saying this today because my house is quiet, but tomorrow who knows what I will be saying...under my breath of course!

My Quick Fix

I know what some may be saying right now. But really... I am almost done painting ,repainting and repainting again. Can you believe it has almost been a month since I started the cabinets. My husband said we could go and check out some granite slabs, but we will see. I needed a quick fix in the mean time and so I changed my curtains. This is for my mom who kindly told me that I needed new curtains. So burlap curtains it is. I still need to do a few more things to them, but I was so excited I had to put them up. Does anyone know how to make burlap smell better? My kitchen smells like "Les Schwab". I love the look of them though. I need to get 3 more yards to make my other panel. I also need to add something so they aren't see-through. Raising the rod made a huge difference in the room. It is interesting how a simple window treatment can make me smile.

I am taking a much needed break from my crazy kitchen. This ~~little~~ HUGE project has taught me to think before you do something CRAZY.

I decided to Mod Podge my girls little table. I was going to paint it, but my friend "paint" and I have been spending too much time together. This is the first thing in a long time that I have finished in under a day.

Cadbury Eggs will make anything beautiful!

Shea had this great idea to take all of our scraps and Mod Podge her magnet board. She really enjoyed it...a little too much. I hope I don't find her using it on anything else!

My Baby is 5!

My baby Shea just turned 5, and all I can say is...WHAT! It was just like yesterday that I held my 6lb 2oz baby girl. She has been a blessing in our lives since she was born. Shea always has a smile or a giggle to share with those around her. She can make a friend where ever she goes. I am honored to be your mother. I love you little Shea Shea. I hope the next 5 years don't pass by as fast. Happy Birthday!

I don't have a lot of storage so I have to sometimes make the food the decor. A little bit of advice though....never put chocolate in them...you'll be sorry!

Distance makes the heart grow fonder. I went to Utah on the 4th for a week with my kids. My husband had to stay home because of work. Anyway 1 hour after I left I recieved a call from my husband. He was wondering if I put Miracle Whip or Mayo on his sandwich. Right then I knew I would be missed.

My husband was so excited to see us on Thursday. He cleaned the house and purchased flowers, my favorite chocolate and a card for me. We started home and about an hour into the drive the weather forced us to turn back. I called my husband to tell him we wouldn't be coming home that day. His voice was very sad as he said "well I guess it's better to be safe than sorry". Finally, two days later we came home. My husband is incredible. He loves me for me and puts his family first. So Happy Valentine's Day Tanner and to my three wonderful children. My heart grows fonder everyday, some more than others! Hahaha

P.S. He had to buy the card he said. It must of spoke to him or something.

We had a blast in Utah though. We were able to spend time with Xavier and the rest of the family. We really enjoyed our time there. The only part that is hard is seeing my son so sad to leave. He is still wanting to move back. He has made some good friends there.

Mad Makeover Continues...

Here are a couple of pictures of the cabinets. We I'm only a third of the way done (the glass is half-full though). I want the maddness to be over. Maybe by taking the kids on a little trip to Grandma and Grandpa's house will give us all a much needed break.

The shelves are my favorite part. It was just waisted space and so my husband cut into the cabinet wall. Now I have a space for my phone book. ( thanks honey!)

My mom is the best. She is so fun to be around and has the energy of a 21-year-old. She makes you feel like you can do anything. I am so blessed to have a wonderful example of womanhood in my life. She definetly will tell you "how it is" too.

My mom called me today to give me a "suggestion" ( I love that about her). She was looking at my blog and noticed that the curtains in my kitchen needed to be changed. She said "they just look out-of-date". She suggested putting up burlap curtains. So what mama "suggests", mama gets! That was a good idea. I love that she can tell me things that others wouldn't. But first I have to finish my cabinets.

Count your blessings, name them one-by-one. I couldn't even begin to count mine. I have only uncovered a corner of my own blessing picture and it does surprise me. My blessings do start with family though. I am grateful to a birth mother that gave my sister and I a safe and loving home to be raised in. I am grateful to a birth mother who gave me an older sister and brother that I cherish and love. I have always been blessed and watched over. I have a mother that went to prayer (and does still) often in my behalf. This was a great example to me because I know where to turn when life may be too hard to bare. I am blessed because I have a father who teaches not only by word but more importantly by example. I am blessed because I get to be the mother to the three people I am most proud of. I am blessed because I have a husband that lifts me daily with his humble spirit and dedication to our family.

Only a loving Father would give this to me. Only a loving Father would give me this kind of foundation.

Xavier, Tanner, Camie and Tayden

Not a little guy!

We had the opportunity to go to the UCLA vs. WSU game. My nephew plays on the offensive line for UCLA. It's hard to believe that he is old enough to be playing college football. We (my parents, Tanner, and Tayden) were 5 of about 30 fans of UCLA that day. We made it on T.V. though. Well kind of, you couldn't see me because a guy was in my way (and I look like I belong in "munchkin land"), but you could see everyone else!

Then on Sunday we listened to Elder Jeffrey R. Holland at our stake conference. He gave the congregation a apostolic blessing. He blessed us that our prayers would be answered, that our children would be safe, that the men would honor their priesthood, and that those that we know will be blessed as well. Wow, it was an opportunity that I don't see us having again anytime soon. I was so glad that my children could hear the voice of an apostle of the Lord first hand.

What a fun Halloween we had. First we had Tayden's football game where he made a 84 yard touchdown and their team won 20 to 28. Next it was trick-or-treat time. I really wish Halloween didn't involve candy. Our dentist bill is already crazy. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

No Regrets

Recently I attended the funeral of my good friend Tracee'. Though it was very hard to fill the whole she left in all of our hearts, I had a wake-up call. It showed me how short life is, and how important it is to express your love to those closest to you. It is so important to enjoy your time here on earth. Kids grow fast, people grow older, friendships are lost, and new friendships are born. But what matters most is that you never leave this world without making your mark on it.

After the funeral we all got together for dinner. We really
missed Tracee'.

I hope that when it is my time to return to my Heavenly Father that I will not have any regrets with the life I had lived. Love to all those that have made a positive impact in my life.

This Baby Is 33!

So my birthday is today and I have to say that 30 is actually looking better and better to me. Wow, I can't believe that I am already 33. I am so blessed to have a loving husband that has made it a point to spoil me this year. He decided that I wanted a motorcycle helmet so we could ride together (all his idea). Well that probably won't happen until it gets warmer, and if my mom had her way it will never happen. I think she doesn't want to end up with my kids if Tanner and I are killed while on the motorcycle. Just kidding! (mom I love you) So anyway my husband took me out for dinner last night, and after we actually went shopping. What he realized was that he has been giving me presents long before my birthday. I have purchased shoes, clothes, rings, house decor, all in his honor. Giving the excuse that it was all for my birthday. I love that guy! He should appreciate that he really doesn't have to take the time to buy me anything, I do it all for him. Today he made dinner for me, (Navajo Tacos, YUM) he is a fabulous cook. Maybe I should let him do all of the cooking. Anyway, I am totally in love with my husband, he is my best friend and I am looking forward to many more birthdays with him.

Thursday morning I decided that I should take my kids to get their flu shots. The previous morning my doctor said that it would be a good idea. So that morning I started to get everyone ready for school, and the whole time I was trying to figure out how to break the news. One side of me said, just show up at the doctors office. The other side said I should prepare them. I decided to go with preparing them. That was not a good choice. Immediately Tye bursts into tears, Tayden said "no way", Shea just smiled. I told Tayden that football hurts a lot more than a shot. So he no longer complained. Tye is still crying at this point and getting louder and louder. So we get into the car, after a lot of protest. Shea is still smiling at this point. We arrive at the doctors office, everyone gets out of the car, except for Tye. So I quickly bribed her and she slowly got out of the car. She is crying very loud, and she is normally a very quiet person. Tayden goes first and flinches a little. Shea gets up and smiles through the whole thing. All the while Tye is getting ready to sprint to the car. The office manager catches her and holds her. Tye is freaking out and when the nurse gives her the shot, she stops crying in the middle of it. So the moral of my very long story is...

no preparation needed.

I ran my first 1/2 marathon yesterday. I really thought I was going to pass out. I ran with a few of my friends. My time was 2 hours and 15 min. I haven't been challenged mentally like that for a long time. I had to push myself beyond what I thought I could ever do. But I am very glad to check that one off my list! My family was there to greet me at the finish line. It is kind of sad that I won't be running in the wee hours of the day with my girls for now.

My husband brought to my attention that my son is in two contact sports (wrestling and football). Though he rocks at them both, there is a good possibility that the ER is just around the corner.

Tye has decided to put the phrase "no offense" after everything she says. I mean she had to ask me what the meaning of it was.

Shea's new word is STUPENDOUS! So this is what she says...

....(her eyes look around to see if I can hear her), if I can she says Stupendous, if I can't she will just call him stupid. Smart girl.

Three weeks until school starts!

This blog will count as my journal. I feel like I really need to start writing things down about my family. My kids are getting older and so am I. So I better start doing something before I forget all of the cute, horrible, funny, unspeakable things my children do from this point on.

School starts in a few weeks, and that means I will have two full time kids in school. Tayden will be 10 in a month and going into 4th grade (crazy), and my Tye is 7 and will be going into the 1st grade. Shea will be attending "Wishing Well" preschool 3 days a week. So what should I do with my time? Well it seems like I never have enough time.

I want to catch you up on what the kids have been up to. This summer consisted of "Day Camp", Oregon Coast, and Utah. My kids still want to move back to Utah. Tayden said there is more to do there. Really I can't argue with him on that one. I miss it too, but don't tell him that. Tayden played rugby for the first time, and started football recently. He has really turned into a good boy. Though I can't buy him clothes before I get his approval, he is very picky on the way he looks. He loves skateboarding and being with his family and friends.

Tye, Tye, Tye! What do I say about her. She is so beautiful and a sweetheart. But...(there is a BUT) she has turned into a sassy little thing. She recently got her ears peirced and it aged her about 3 years. She looks way to grown up! She loves to dance and play with friends and is looking forward to eating lunch at school this year. She has really come out of her shell. She has a cute personality and makes friends easily. She is still a good sister to Tayden and Shea, and very forgiving even when they team up on her.

Shea! Wow! My baby is 4. I recently sold my jogging stroller, and I felt a little sad knowing I wouldn't be pushing around a baby anymore. Shea loves her friends. She is way into singing. No matter where she is at she is singing (car, potty, bath, bed) Today, she put some music on and dressed up in her dance clothes and put a great concert on for me.

My husband is so incredible. He loves me and shows me everyday how much he cares. A simple kiss goodbye, or a hug, or even helping me with the kids, he tries all of the time. Tanner is working for Wubben Brothers still. He likes it but would really like to start his own thing.
